SUMMARY:From Our Past To Our Future: Breast Imaging in Colonial Williamsburg
DESCRIPTION:Total hours of CME:  15.0 AMA PRA Category 1 credits\, 16.0 ASRT Category A Credits\, and up to 8 SAM’s credits.\nEducational Description\n\nA practical clinically focused approach to breast imaging will be presented.  Focused discussions on the use of mammography\, ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging in the detection and evaluation of lesions are intended to optimize needed clinical\, imaging and pathological concordance.  The data in support of aggressive screening guidelines and the impact of digital breast tomosynthesis on work flow will also be examined. \n  \nEducational Objectives\n\nBy the end of this program participates should be able to: \n\nUse historical and current data that support the annual use of screening mammography in all women at average risk for breast cancer starting at age 40 and to effectively communicate with\, and educate\, referring physicians and patients regarding the benefits of a robust screening program.\nDetermine the technical adequacy of mammographic images and recognize issues with positioning prior to image interpretation.\nEffectively apply the BI-RADS® Mammography lexicon.\nRecognize and minimize some of the more common causes for delaying or missing the diagnosis of breast cancer.\nDetect. efficiently evaluate and confidently determine management options for  breast masses\, calcifications\, parenchymal asymmetries and diffuse breast changes.\nAssess patients presenting with nipple discharge and establish appropriate evaluation strategies.\nEstablish algorithms for when and how to image the axilla and the appropriateness of ultrasound guided sampling for tissue diagnosis.\nOutline the current uses of breast ultrasound in the diagnostic setting.\nRecognize the importance and absolute need for establishing clinical\, imaging and pathologic concordance.\nAssess the impact on work-flow and applications of digital breast tomosynthesis in screening and diagnostic settings.\nRecognize the MRI findings of non-invasive and invasive breast cancers as well as in the altered breast and the potential roll of breast MRI in problem solving.\nImplement a clinically focused breast imaging program with direct communication between the breast imaging radiologist\, patients and the multidisciplinary breast health team.\n\n\nTarget Audience\n\nRadiologists and radiology residents\, Mammography technologists\, radiology nurses and physician assistants\, Breast surgeons\, Administrators involved with breast imaging. \nAccreditation\nThe International Institute for Continuing Medical Education\, Inc. is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. \nDesignation\nThe International Institute for Continuing Medical Education\, Inc.\, designates this live activity for a maximum of [acf field=”iicme_course_credits”] AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. \nModality Breakdown\nTotal hours of CME:  15.0 hrs\, 16 ASRT Category A Credits\, and up to 8 SAM’s credits. \nBreakdown of hours:\nBreast Ultrasound:  7 hours\nBreast MR:  5 hours\nDigital Mammography:  6 hours\nDigital Breast Tomosynthesis: 1 hour
