Course Description

FOUR GREAT WAYS TO MEET ALL YOUR INITIAL TRAINING REQUIREMENTS FOR MQSA AND ACR ACCREDITATION IN MAMMOGRAPHY, BREAST MRI (Society of Breast MRI Hands-on 200 case review), TOMOSYNTHESIS, & AUTOMATED WHOLE BREAST ULTRASOUND, ALL IN ONE CONFERENCE!

This course is designed for radiologists who find themselves challenged by the new practical issues of performing successful high-quality breast imaging in a changing medical environment. This year, we have redesigned the course to better meet every radiologist’s ongoing breast imaging needs:

FOUR GREAT WAYS TO MEET ALL YOUR INITIAL TRAINING REQUIREMENTS FOR MQSA, FDA, AND ACR ACCREDITATION IN MAMMOGRAPHY, BREAST MRI, TOMOSYNTHESIS, & AUTOMATED WHOLE BREAST ULTRASOUND, ALL IN ONE CONFERENCE!

Attendees have a CHOICE of attending the didactic track encompassing all breast imaging modalities, and/or any or all of the FOUR interactive workshop tracks, all taught by a world class faculty:

1. In MAMMOGRAPHY (300 unknown cases read by each attendee at the workstation) [up to 10 hours of CME]
2. In MRI (Society of Breast MRI Hands-on 200 case review at the workstation) [up to 10 hours of CME], and
3. In TOMOSYNTHESIS (8 hours of interactive instruction- includes tomosynthesis 200 cases to be read at the workstation).
4. In AUTOMATED WHOLE BREAST ULTRASOUND (4 Hour training course plus 4 hour prerequisite self-study prior to hands-on session)

By doing so, attendees can meet the 240 case initial recertification requirements in mammography under MQSA, meet the 100 cases MRI interpretation requirements for ACR accreditation in breast MRI, and meet the initial 8 hours of  training required by FDA for interpretation of Tomosynthesis cases!

Attendees can choose to attend only the didactic track, OR can combine the didactic track with ANY OR ALL of these interactive tracks! (They also may choose to attend only the 8 hour Tomosynthesis track. In order to receive the 8 hour certification in tomosynthesis, FDA requires 8 hours of prior training in digital mammography. If you do not have prior training in digital mammography, this can be fulfilled by also taking the digital mammography workshop track.)

Attendees can also choose to attend the interactive workstation-based physician-only Automated Whole Breast Ultrasound track.

The extremely popular and successful hands-on workshops teaching stereotactic, ultrasound-guided, and MR needle biopsy techniques and Automated Whole Breast Ultrasound, featuring the latest equipment from a wide spectrum of vendors, will also again be offered and will be included as part of the didactic lecture track.

This year, we are honoring DR. TOM STAVROS as our Keynote Speaker. Dr. STAVROS is considered the world’s most outstanding expert in breast ultrasound. His textbook remains the definitive reference on breast ultrasound, and his lectures continue to amaze and enlighten radiologists worldwide.

SPECIAL NOTICE TO THOSE WISHING TO ATTEND THE 8 HOUR ALL DAY INTERACTIVE TOMOSYNTHESIS COURSE ON THURSDAY:
This course includes the option to read up to 200 tomosynthesis cases on your own at the workstation. Attendees can do so PRIOR TO the interactive Tomosynthesis lecture course on Thursday, OR can review the tomosynthesis cases at the workstation on Thursday afternoon, after the morning didactic session on Tomosynthesis. The latter way of attending the Tomosynthesis course is more ideal, as the attendees would be gaining the full benefit of the didactic lectures prior to reviewing cases “live” at the workstation. HOWEVER, if you wish to review tomo cases at the workstation up to and including Wednesday night instead of waiting until after the didactic portion of the tomosynthesis course on Thursday, you will have completed 8 hours of tomosynthesis training by the end of the didactic course at 12:00 Noon on Thursday, and do not have to attend the Thursday afternoon workshop session. HOWEVER, if you choose to do this, it would be VERY HELPFUL to you to attend the workshop orientation session at 3:15 PM on Monday, August 5.

If you choose the option of reading tomosynthesis cases at the workstation after the didactic tomosynthesis lectures on Thursday morning (which is the PREFERRED ORDER for the most learning benefit), then you must stay until 5:15 PM Thursday to complete the 8 hours of the Tomosynthesis course.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

By the end of this course, registrants will be able to:

  • Apply new and improved skills in perception to the interpretation of screening mammograms.
  • Develop strategies to reduce the possibility of a missed lesion at screening.
  • Perform a more comprehensive evaluation of screening-detected abnormalities, including appropriate use of special mammographic views, ultrasound, MR, and other modalities
  • Appraise the current status of interventional breast procedures, especially core biopsy.
  • Perform the techniques of stereotactic, ultrasound, and MR-guided core needle biopsy of the breast.
  • Delineate the expanding role of the Breast MR in the everyday practice of breast imaging, including its role in screening high-risk patients.
  • Perform interpretation of up to 300 digital mammograms at the workstation, documented toward accreditation or re-accreditation in mammography under MQSA
  • Perform interpretation of up to 200 Breast MR examinations, documented toward ACR Breast MR accreditation.
  • Acquire up to 8 hours of Tomosynthesis interactive instruction, documented toward fulfilling the 8 hours required by FDA for one to perform and interpret Tomosynthesis.
  • Appreciate the role of Automated Whole Breast Ultrasound in breast cancer screening.

THE SANTA FE OPERA AND SANTA FE CHAMBER MUSIC FESTIVAL

Every July and August since 1957, opera lovers have been drawn to the magnificent northern New Mexico mountains to enjoy productions by one of America’s premier summer opera festivals. The Santa Fe Opera’s dramatic adobe theater blends harmoniously with the high desert landscape. It is this fusion of nature and art that leaves such an enduring impression on all who come. More than half the audience of 85,000 comes from outside New Mexico, representing every state in the union as well as 25 to 30 foreign countries. The demand for tickets for both the Opera and the Chamber Music Festival is extremely high. Consequently, ticket requests should be made as early as possible. Contact the Opera at 800-280-4654 or at www.santafeopera.org, and the Chamber Festival at 888-221-9836 or at www.santafechambermusic.com
