Course Description

This course will review the latest developments in technique, interpretation, and biopsy using mammography, breast ultrasound, and breast MRI. Controversial issues in screening guidelines, significance of breast density, medicolegal issues, and risk assessment will also be discussed.

Educational Objectives

At the completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

  • Discuss the proper application and clinical value of  ACR BI-RADS 5th Edition terminology  for breast imaging findings on mammography, breast ultrasound, and breast MRI.
  • Develop a multimodality approach to screening, clinical problem solving, and staging.
  • Appreciate the latest technologic developments in digital tomosynthesis, hand held and automated breast ultrasound, breast MRI, and preoperative localization markers .
  • Understand the techniques and skills for breast biopsy using guidance with stereotactic mammography and tomosynthesis, ultrasound and MRI.
  • Discuss recent screening mammography controversies.
  • Reduce the risk of false negative interpretation and malpractice litigation.
  • Understand the clinical value of risk assessment, breast density estimation, and participation in the ACR National Mammography Database

Target Audience

The course is designed for radiologists who interpret breast imaging studies and perform breast interventional procedures. Mammography, breast ultrasound, and breast MRI technologists will also benefit from this course.
